As New York City prepares to enter “phase 2” of its reopening Monday, Gov. Cuomo gave a warning to other parts of the country grappling with coronavirus outbreaks.
Discussing President Trump’s previous push to reopen the country by Easter, Cuomo said on “CBS Sunday Morning”: “You know where we are now? Dow Jones tumbles again, fear of second wave. That’s what happens when you reopen and you don’t do it intelligently [and] you do it politically.”
Cuomo sought to strike a personal note during the CBS interview.
“This was a frightening period. People were afraid for their life, literally. How do I keep my elderly parents safe?” he reflected. “I felt that also. And I wanted to connect with the people I was talking to,” said Cumo during the CBS interview.
New York’s governor confirmed that 15 deaths were attributed to COVID-19 across the state on Saturday – the state’s lowest death toll since the early days of the outbreak in March.
