It’s almost here – after a lot of waiting and a series of delays thanks to Covid-19, we can finally expect to see the reveal of the next Smash character today.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai has announced that he’ll be showing us the Nintendo Switch fighter’s newest arrival later today.
Via a video presentation, Sakurai will show off how the new character will fit in amongst the ragtag bunch of heroes and villains that is the Smash roster.
The presentation, which kicks off at 3pm UK time, will last for an impressive 35 minutes, which gives Sakurai a decent chunk of time to get his teeth into the character and tell us what’s what with the newcomer.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – Mr. Sakurai Presents a Fighter from ARMS
We already know that the fighter will be a character that appeared in the Nintendo Switch’s 2017 fighting game, ARMS, but beyond that it’s anyone’s guess who it could be.
We’d like to see Twintelle appear in the game – it’d be nice for Nintendo to get some more diversity in the roster – but knowing how Nintendo likes to pluck mascot characters out of its franchises, we’re probably going to to see Spring Man or Ribbon Girl appear in the game.
Nintendo has explicitly said no other games will be mentioned in the presentation, and that we shouldn’t expect to see any other fighters teased or revealed, either.
“There will be no further new fighter reveals other than a fighter from Arms in this livestream,” the company announced, bluntly.
The presentation will be streamed on Nintendo’s YouTube channel, and you can see it embedded above.
The Arms character is the first character from its the second set of DLC fighters that will be available to download via Fighters Pass Vol. 2.
Nintendo has stated that all characters will be available by the end of 2021.
