Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s mysterious ARMS challenger for the Fighters Pass Vol. 2 will finally be revealed tomorrow, June 22. Considering that we’re near the end of the month, a release date is expected to be fairly soon.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Masahiro Sakurai and the rest of the DLC development team have been confined to their homes while they design the unnamed ARMS representative. Although there’s less stress involved for the team when it comes to teleworking instead of commuting to work, Sakurai has noted that there have been a few complications when it comes to equipment.
When Joker’s gameplay was first unveiled back in April 2019, it was done via a video that featured gameplay and narration. In fact, many of the main characters from Persona 5 had voiced lines that can only be heard during this breakdown segment.
As one might imagine, this was quite a costly approach to revealing the gameplay for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s DLC. Masahiro Sakurai would later make a joke that stated that the team doesn’t have much of a budget to keep doing things like this. There was of course some truth to this joke.
Starting with Hero, Sakurai would then adopt a “live stream” approach that methodically explained the gameplay for future fighters. This was much cheaper as Sakurai didn’t have to pay anyone for making the script or contributing towards gameplay.
Due to the current circumstances, tomorrow’s reveal has been recorded directly from Masahiro Sakurai’s home. “Are we really doing it? Yes, indeed, it’s recorded from at home,” said Sakurai on Twitter. “I don’t even have any filming staff present, so I’m also the cameraman.”
A special thanks goes out to Nicholas ‘MajinTenshinhan’ Taylor for his translation.
