Lionel Messi reached yet another milestone on Tuesday night as he scored his 700th career goal – but Cristiano Ronaldo refused to let his rival have all the headlines.

The Juventus forward scored a stunning long-range effort in their Serie A win over Genoa.

Cristiano Ronaldo celebrated his spectacular goal against Genoa

In typical Ronaldo fashion, he picked up the ball just inside the opposition half, drove at the defence, and lashed the ball into the top corner from 30 yards.

It was yet another sensational goal to add to the career highlights for one of the greatest players to ever play the game.

Ronaldo has now scored 24 goals in 25 games for Juve in the 2019/20 season that has been disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic.

The Portugal star is 35 and Messi is 33 but they continue to be the benchmark of greatness across world football.

Juventus went on to win the game against Genoa 3-1 with Paulo Dybala and Douglas Costa scoring either side of Ronaldo’s spectacular goal.

Costa’s strike also deserves plenty of plaudits as he bent the ball in the top corner around a defender.

There are still nine games to go in the Serie A season but the Turin side are four points clear of second place Lazio and now nine ahead of Inter Milan.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo remains ahead of Messi in the all-time goal charts, having reached the 700 club himself last October.
