Giants’ Buster Posey will opt out of pandemic-shortened 2020 season

Giants catcher Buster Posey said Friday he will opt out of the 2020 season, saying he and his wife are the newborn parents of twins they are adopting, who were born prematurely, and he and his family feel it best that he not play.

Giants catcher Buster Posey said Friday he will opt out of the 2020 season, saying he and his wife are the newborn parents of twin girls they are adopting, who were born prematurely, and that he and his family feel it best that he not play.

Posey said the two girls, born at 32 weeks on Friday, are healthy, but their immune systems could be comproimsed for several months.

“I can’t sit here and tell you that I know what is the right answer this or the wrong answer to this, Posey said. “But after weighing it for a long time, talking to doctors, I just feel like in the current state we are now, and these sbabies being as fragile as they are or the next four months at miniumm, this ultimately was not a difficult decision for me.”
